Well the weather has finally been worth mentioning. It’s been warm, beautiful and what Swiss summers are all about. I decided to be adventurous and try the French attempt at a Weisse Bier, the 1664 Blanc.
The distinct blue bottle is interesting to say the least. I mean it’s not to often that you see a bière in a blue bottle. Also the bottle are half the size of the German half litre bottles? Essentially a shot of bière. Anyway, the bière itself is ok and to be honest is WAY to sweet. The texture is like a mid-range German Weisse, which is not bad. However the flavour in the Blanc is nothing to write home about, it has an initial palette hit of passion fruit and apricot, which while summery it doesn’t evolve and you are left with this overly sweet flavour in your mouth. So this might work for some people, but is no means what I’m interested in. So here is 2 steins.

Yet another Weisse Bier, yet another 4 steins. Although I should state that I think this has more to do with the region than the brewers. München (Munich) and the Bavarian area really is the king of Weisse Bier production. The above Hofbräu Münchner Weisse is no different. It has a brilliant toffee and banana flavour, without being too sweet and it has almost the perfect chewey texture of a good Weisse.
Many of you may know the Hofbräu from your trips to München for Oktoberfest or just for site seeing. However I’m sure most of you would probably just have the standard Pils. So next time you are there, give the Weisse a shot, you’ll eb surprised at how good it looks in a one Litre Stein
Anyway, here is 4 steins for the Münchner Weisse from Hofbräu.

About 6 years ago this summer, I had just jumped off a train in Penn Station in NYC to catch up with my mate J. Once finally at his apartment in Soho, we cracked open a couple of these beauties, the Brooklyn Brewery Lagers.
It seems my local shop is just got a shipment of these in and well of course I did my bit to assist the US economy!
From my experience I can say that this Lager, is not like a conventional Aussie lager or any lagers previously reviewed on this site. In fact the Brooklyn Brewery Lager has a stronger hop flavour and almost comes across as an Amber.
I thoroughly enjoyed drinking this beer in 2003 in NYC and again last night in 2009 on my balcony. So here are 4 well deserved steins:

I spent the weekend hanging out in Paris, ahh the French. I love being in Paris but the French really do have problems with making bière. I guess it’s the wine industry, but there really isn’t any good bière in France. So when trying to get a photo and an experience I decided to just find a French bière and drink near a famous place.
So here is a the lager Kronenbourg sitting up proudly in front of Eiffel Tower.
No matter what the location, this bière is still pretty crap. So it gets 2 Steins:

Tonight I got home after a looooong week at work and my partner in crime had a nicely chilled Krušovice Pils for me. Whilst the beer is not bad, it wasn’t up there with with the usual Czech and German Pils. Still I enjoyed this rendition of a pils when getting home and needing a cold bier at home worked well.
So the beer works, not to the best extent, but it’s there. I’m going to throw 3 steins at it:

My partner in crime picked up some supplies when visiting Germany. This Dunkel Weißbier is from Franziskaner, which is yet another Bavarian brewery. These guys however can trace their history back to the 1363! Crazy no?
Anyway, the above bier is the perfect blend of dark, charcoal toffee flavours without being too heavy on the ‘dark’ bier flavour like other Dunkels. I know I’m being generous, but I do love this bier, thus 5 steins:
